I first attended Fred Astaire in Schererville on July 18th in preparation for A Royal Ball, put on by One Dance at a Time, in Joliet, IL. The ball was on October 19th, which gave me three months to learn Waltz, Foxtrot, and Swing. After Social Foundation, you select four dances to learn, and you focus on 2 dances per lesson for 2 lessons a week. My dance instructor was Shannon, and at her suggestion I picked up Hustle as well. She did a great job of explaining the difference between smooth/rhythm, stationary/traveling dances, and Hustle was the perfect compliment to Swing. In this time, I attended group lessons and fell in love with Bachata and picked up that dance as well. When I danced at the ball, I was asked these questions verbatim: "How many years have you taken dance lessons for?" "How long have you been a dance instructor for?" Three months, and I'm not a dance instructor, but I am good at teaching people when they come to our Practice Parties or Social Foundation classes. I am now in Intro Bronze and I dropped Swing for Bachata. I have started competing in Fred Astaire's Practice Rounds events, and more competitions may be in my future. Sadly, after 5 months of learning at Fred Astaire, my teacher, Shannon (who is not mentioned enough in these reviews), is retiring with the goal of starting a family. I am very confident in my abilities as a result of Shannon's teaching and Fred Astaire's syllabus, and I would suggest that any of my friends take the Beginner lessons.

Fred Astaire is the BEST place to learn dance. We’ve done it for three years, starting out with our wedding dance. It is something super fun to do with your spouse. It gives us something to look forward to every week. Everyone here is so genuine and kind. I cannot recommend it enough🤍

Great fun with a partner/spouse, with friends, or by yourself if you love to dance or think you cannot dance yet want to! TJ is a ROCKSTAR Instructor! All of the instructors are passionate about their craft and patient with students, you will be spinning on the dance floor in no time!
